How to Make a Quiet Book at Home

A quiet book is one of the easiest learning tools you can make at home. With a few supplies and a free printable, you can build a reusable activity book that grows with your child.

Materials You Need

  • Cardstock or heavy paper
  • Scissors or a paper trimmer
  • A laminator and pouches
  • Velcro dots
  • Hole punch and binder rings (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Download and print the quiet book PDF at full size on heavy paper.
  2. Cut out the activity pages and movable pieces on the cut-out pages.
  3. Laminate each page and each movable piece for durability.
  4. Attach Velcro dots to the back of pieces and to the matching spots on pages.
  5. Bind the pages with rings, a binder or a ribbon.

Tips for Success

  • Use self-adhesive Velcro to save time.
  • Store loose pieces in a small bag attached to the book.
  • Start with one activity and add more pages as your child masters them.

Making a quiet book at home is a low-cost way to create a personalized learning toy that children return to again and again.
